Here at CWS 4×4, one of the most exciting moments in any year is being able to take a look at a forthcoming 4×4 that’s set for release in the near future. However, what’s caught our eye in the last few days is very special indeed, as it represents the culmination of a development that’s been in the pipeline for a good long while.
Popular BBC motoring program Top Gear is never one to miss a trick, and they’ve been quick off the mark where the new Discovery Sport is concerned. This latest introduction from Land Rover is going to be the replacement for the long-standing Freelander, and, judging from the videos that we’ve seen, the Discovery Sport certainly looks worthy of taking up that mantle!
Land Rover has concealed the appearance of the Discovery Sport in camouflage foil during the testing footage, so there’s still a good deal that won’t be known until the grand unveiling. Apparently, the first Discovery Sport model will conform to a five-seat pattern, although a seven-seat version could well follow soon afterwards.
What hasn’t been left to the imagination though, is the off-road capability of this new Land Rover. Having been out on an extensive world tour already, the Discovery Sport prototypes have registered a combined 750,000 miles worth of driving experience, and much of this distance has been traversed upon the most demanding of terrains.
The Discovery Sport has already been taken through ice, snow, desert and good old-fashioned British mud, and has even been put through its paces at the Nurburgring too, so it appears to have been tested in pretty much all areas. It also looks exceptionally good too, so we’re definitely awaiting the official September reveal with great interest.
Of course, when you’re tackling terrain that’s as challenging as that which we see in the Discovery Sport footage, it’s inevitable that a few repairs will need to be carried out here and there. 4x4s are finely honed to attain optimal performance, and even a small component can make a big difference to the capabilities of an off-roader. With that in mind, the 4×4 salvage experts at CWS 4×4 are here to help.
