If you remember last time, we did a post on the essential items you need to take with you on your off-road venture, whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned veteran. As we established, there’s a lot more to being prepared than just bringing a few essentials along with you – you need some real gear, two rucksacks full at least!
Last time, we told you about bringing such items as spare tires, a winch and medical supplies as well as feeding your beastly 4×4 with a full tank of fuel. What have we got in store for you this time, let’s take a look!
Gloves
You have your winch; you’re prepared to un-stick yourself from an incredibly sticky situation, but turns out the rope is most likely a steel cable, which your hands aren’t exactly built to handle. That’s why it’s incredibly handy (punny!) to pack a pair of strong gloves, preferably ones that are incredibly thick also.
Mobile Phone
These days it’s hard to imagine anyone without their phone, but as an off-roader, we know that your idea of having fun doesn’t involve your phone. However, off-roading can be a dangerous game, and you want to ensure that you don’t end up in some sort of Blair Witch scenario, so taking your phone, fully charged as well, will help you in case of emergencies. God, we sound like your mum!
Shovel
Another tool to extract you from a sticky situation; however this will help with the more literal version of that term. One of the biggest hiccups that can happen to any off-roader is getting stuck in the mud, and while your machine’s wheels might include some of the most powerful and modern tires on the market, something more basic can often be the better answer.
Maps
Travelling off the beaten path lesson 101: Bring a map! You really don’t want the memory of any off-road trip, however much fun you’ve had, to be the memory of panicking because you couldn’t find your way back to the path, or just had no clue of where you were. There are plenty of horror films that start off like that, and we know you’re a tough, fun-loving off-roader, not monster chow.
The last thing to check is of course is the condition of your vehicle as that’s the thing that’s going to get you from point A to point B, wherever or whatever those parts are!
If you find that your 4×4 isn’t in top shape, and could do with some new parts, we at CWS can help! We stock everything from Land Rover spares to 4×4 gearboxes, so we have you covered on nearly anything you could need!
