The Land Rover Discovery has been with us now for over 25 years and is currently in its fourth generation. As soon as the Discovery first landed on the market in 1990, anyone with any knowledge of 4x4s knew that this was a truly remarkable vehicle. 25 years of constant development have lead to it becoming one of the most all-conquering and hugely capable vehicles on the market.
The current Discovery 4 manages to meld shockingly good off-road performance with excellent on-road manners and comfort levels. Land Rover announced recently that this seemingly perfect vehicle would be receiving a refresh in 2015 and it left us questioning ‘What could be improved?’ As one of the leading suppliers of Land Rover Discovery parts we thought it was important to take a closer look, and in this blog we are going to explore the scheduled improvements and what they will mean for one of our absolute favourite 4x4s.
The good news is that most of the upgrades are cosmetic and the excellent engine, gearbox and chassis remain the same. The upgrades are carried over from Land Rover’s edition XXV Discovery and are available as options on cars now for delivery in September.
New wheels
On the exterior of the new discovery you will now be able to choose the option of 20 inch 5 spoke forged alloy wheels. These new wheels are sure to be popular as they really lift the exterior appearance of the Discovery and thankfully the standard air suspension should stop them infringing on the ride quality. There are also new paint options available including Kaikoura Stone, Aruba and Montalcino Red which are sure to give it even more visual impact.
New interior options
The Discovery interior gains a new walnut and leather steering wheel with several other aesthetic and comfort upgrades. The big news though is the new in-car communications system which is said to help drivers to easily and safely access information on their phone such as contacts and music. This in-car technology really adds to the usability of this incredible vehicle, and is sure to open it up to an even wider market.
So if you are looking for a new 4×4 then it may well be worth hanging on until September to get the ultimate edition of ‘the best 4x4xfar’ to sit on your drive.
