007’s Spectre: Rover, Land Rover

Here at CWS 4X4 we’re passionate about cars, and we’re always noticing when they show up in films. And what’s more iconic than James Bond driving his cars? We’ve announced our excitement over the Land Rovers in Spectre after making a list of the other amazing cars in former 007 films, and the time has finally come to see what they are.

Besides the fabulous Aston Martin DB10 driven by James Bond, in Spectre the villains drove beautiful Jaguar Land Rovers, Range Rover Sport SVRs, and Land Rover Defender SVXs. We say plural, because 10 Aston Martins were created for the film, at least 7 Jaguars, and 4 Range Rovers. £20 million of the budget was for the Aston Martins alone!

Jaguar Land Rover

Land Rover announced a partnership with Jaguar for the film Spectre, and they didn’t disappoint. The Jaguar Land Rover C-X75 was featured in a car chase sequence in Rome. It has a combined power output in excess of 850bhp and 1000Nm of torque, possible due to the Formula 1 inspired, 1.6-litre dual boosted four cylinder power plant generating 502bhp at 10,000rpm.

Driven by the villain Mr Hinx, the Jaguar Land Rover C-X75 goes from 0 to 100mph in less than six seconds due to its 7-speed automated manual transmission, which allows you to shift gears in under 200 milliseconds. This car can run for 60km in electric vehicle mode with CO2 emissions below 89g/km. If you’re looking for a fast, but fuel efficient car, then this Jaguar is for you.

Range Rover Sport SVR

This car is the fastest and most powerful Land Rover in existence; with 543bhp at 6000rpm and 500lb-ft of torque, it can reach an amazing speed of 162mph.

With an 8-speed automatic gearbox, it allows upshifts in a quick speed; the throttle is automatically blipped when you downshift, smoothing every gear change.

Land Rover Defender SVX

The Land Rover Defenders used in the film were built by the Special Operations division. They have custom-built suspension and augmented body protection, with big 37-inch diameter off-road tyres for all kinds of terrain.

Both the Defenders and the Range Rovers were heavily modified to withstand the stunts in the film, but they are just as brilliant on a normal road, and off it. The Defender is an excellent vehicle for off-road driving, having a clever traction control and exceptional axle articulation.

James Bond is very well-known for its beautiful, top of the line cars. The Rovers used in Spectre were the best in the market and, with another film announced, we wonder what more is in store for Bond. But one thing is certain; many more cars will be sacrificed for Bond to catch the bad guys.
